About Historic Strides

Ancient Celtic Clans Announces
“Historic Strides”
Oct 6th-8th to benefit
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Who We Are

Ancient Celtic Clans is a re-enactment group dedicated to studying the life and times of the Celts from 500BC to 1100AD. The majority of our research is hands-on, known as “experimental archaeology”. This means we first handedly try out the clothes, tools, and technology of the ancient Celts after rigorously researching them.

Why CF?

Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. More than 10 million Americans are symptomless carriers of the defective CF gene. When the founding the members of ACC (Dan & Sarah) learned that their newborn granddaughter, Keira, had been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) they considered various ways they could help the CF Foundation. Sarah signed up for the genetic study program offered, but Dan decided to organize a historically based fundraiser. The result is “Historic Strides”; a variant of the successful “Great Strides” walk-a-thon run by the CF Foundation.

The Goal For three days and two nights (Oct 6th-8th, 2007) participants in “Historic Strides” will be hiking and camping in the Adirondacks with only the primitive gear that the Celts (from 500BC to 1100AD) would have used. We are doing all of this to raise money for the CF Foundation, and that’s how you can help. Please consider making a donation to the CF Foundation in honor of Keira. In addition to a flat donation for our trek, you can also opt to “challenge” us by pledging additional donations for every primitive skill we complete throughout the trek; lighting the evening cook fire with flint & steel, or even successfully hunting for our evening meal. On top of all that, if feel like taking a risk, you can base an extra donation on the weather, to see if we can withstand rain or possibly even snow!
